Hour 2- The Bad Daydream

Hour 2: The Bad Daydream

Kenny gasped and his eyes shot open, ‘Feeling tired?’ a female voice asked, he glanced up and saw a woman dressed in a black dress, ‘It’s fine, Miss Claire…’Kenny muttered his gaze not meeting hers due to his cheeks burning red with embarrassment. ‘Let’s try and stay awake shall we?’ said Miss Claire and she continued talking about the formation of earthquakes, Kenny sighed and stared out of the window, rain was drizzling outside, making the mood of the room seem depressing and boring, as Miss Claire droned on about earthquakes, Kenny pondered about his daydream, it seemed so real, that woman reaching out to grab him, he could still feel the cold sting of her touch, the deathly choking darkness that followed, was it…all real? He dismissed the dream as a result of staying up till 3 to play Skyrim, he was tired the whole day and that dream was most likely some fort of hallucination due to sleep deprivation.

The clock finally struck quarter past three, ‘Right, guys remember to finish that case study and we’ll be have a pop quiz this Thursday, so hit the books!’ Miss Claire said while shuffling some papers. Everyone muttered a grunt in reply as they dragged themselves out of the room. As Kenny walked back to the boarding house, he saw Kenneth walking along the corridor, catching up to him, ‘Kenneth, how was geography class.’ Kenny taunted. Although Kenneth and Kenny were roommates, share almost the same classes that’s where the similarities end, Kenny was of a large build, tall and had and almost “teddy bear” appearance, or at least what some people say, while Kenneth was thin, almost frail like and had glasses. Kenneth was more of a stay indoors kind of person, while Kenny was an adrenaline junkie, filling his CCA times with activities like go-karting and water skiing.

‘Shut up…’ Kenneth muttered giving Kenny a whack at the arm. ‘I feel like I want to rip her face off’ Kenneth muttered. ‘It can’t be that bad.’  Kenny laughed as they ventured back to the boarding house. As they arrived back in the boarding house, they climbed a flight of stairs and passed through a door, leading into a common room, all the way to the end, it was their room, what they called “home” as they opened the door a wave of perfume, body odor and hot chocolate mix attacked their nostrils. Kenneth flopped down onto the bed, screaming into his pillow, shouting about killing Ms. Claire with a nail gun, Kenny just chuckled and placed his bag on the ground. Kenny stared out the window, looking at all the students rushing home eagerly, cars outside were lined up to pick up their sons and daughters, Kenny felt the cool touch of the pendent on his neck, he gripped it tightly as if afraid it would disappear. ‘I know you’re out there… somewhere’ Kenny whispered softly.

‘You’ll punch my lights out, you’ll get electrocuted.’ Said Adam, Kenny scowled but said nothing and the boy laughed. His name was Adam, born with black hair and skin; Adam was a fit, young 17-year-old boy. He enjoyed putting down Kenny with his comebacks and gags, but Kenny would never react which added to his self-pleasure. They were down at dinner with the rest of the boarders, everyone happily eatig away at the meal that was set out. ‘I’ll find your grave and throw rocks at it.’ Kenny muttered, he heard a comeback and laughter but he didn’t really pay attention, he was so tired, he wanted to go to bed as soon as he could.

Finally, night came as an elderly gentleman stepped in, saying ‘Lights out.’ That elderly gentleman was Trevor Shubert, a man in his ripe 50’s, he worked as a director of the boarding house that Kenny was staying in, he was gentle and kind but was firm if the situation needed him to. ‘See you in the morning.’ He said. Kenny pulled the covers and his eyes closed, slowly he drifted into the oblivion of sleep.
